Introducing Our Tech Expert

Introducing Alan Cassisa, Mobile Team Leader at Vulog, responsible for guiding technical decisions and managing a team of 7. Alan plays an essential role in leading the growth and development of our mobile engineers. Not only does a Mobile Team Leader need exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, but they also need strong leadership and people management skills. So let’s pick into Alan’s brain the tech expert leading Vulog’s mobile development team!

Favorite tech device?

A: I would definitely have to say my iPhone 12 Pro max. Having such a powerful handheld device with me at any time, with potentially all the apps I’m working on at once is excellent and so convenient!

Favorite app?

A: Spotify! Whether in my car, at home, or at work, I can simply go into my own personal bubble and work quietly; it’s my go-to.

Where did you study?

A: I studied Computer Science at Valrose University in Nice for two years and received my Mobile Apps Development Diploma at IUT Nice Côte d’Azur in Sophia Antipolis. I completed my final year of studies by doing an internship in a company based in Nice.

What are some examples of your previous work experience?

A: I first worked as an independent app developer for a few years which allowed me to gain experience and confidence and work on a significant number of different applications. After that, I worked in a small mobile team in a company in Sophia-Antipolis until December 2018 when I joined Vulog.

What drew you to working in the tech industry?

A: Since I was a child, I have always had an interest in computers and anything related to technology. While not a total geek, I started experimenting with computers at a very young age and my interest has only grown since then. Considering how far we’ve come in the last 25 years, I’m very excited to be a part of this incredible and ever-changing industry.

What inspired you to work at Vulog?

A: I wanted to be part of a larger company and work on something real and meaningful. Being part of a company that promotes car sharing and cleaner ways to navigate through life is a real opportunity in this day and age. I was also looking to join a larger team to grow my skills. Since I had heard such positive feedback about the people in the mobile team at Vulog, I didn’t hesitate for a second.

What is your favorite project that you have worked on at Vulog? Or a project that you are particularly proud of?

A: From a developer’s point of view, the free-floating application was the first one I started working on. Through this, I’ve come to discover mobility’s major impact on everyday life as well as gain a deeper understanding of Vulog’s purpose. It still is to this day a fond memory of mine. More recently, it was really satisfying to see the team progress on the OneApp, Vulog’s all-in-one app that enables both free-floating and scheduled booking. It brought together everything we already know how to do on the mobile side and seeing them grow in skills while crafting a more up-to-date application, hand in hand with the Product Team.

As you manage a team, what is your strategy when it comes to guiding and mentoring the mobile development team?

A: Even before I was appointed Team Leader, the team was operating under the agile methodology, and as we learned to work with Scrum, we saw our predictability and efficiency improve. It gives a clear framework for our workflow and a solid basis for healthy collaboration within the team and with members of other teams. Apart from that, I think it’s essential to get each team member’s voice heard and reach a consensus that allows everyone to move in the same direction and be convinced of the logic behind the decisions that have been made. Ultimately, we are all committed to providing the best product that Vulog customers love.

Where do you see mobility technology heading in the future?

A: Like everyone at Vulog, I genuinely believe that shared mobility is the way of the future. What’s more-

I am convinced that consumer habits have changed over the past few years and that more and more people are willing to go the extra mile for a greener future.
