Introducing our Tech Expert

Introducing Antoine Russegger, Product Owner at Vulog, the tech guy behind developing new and innovative features through Research and Development (R&D) to ensure Vulog’s product is always on track. Product Owners have the complete responsibility and ownership of defining and even prioritizing user requirements, so Antoine must communicate with the development team to explain the product features that will be implemented. So let’s get to know Antoine, the mastermind behind creating, ordering, and maintaining the Product Backlog!

Favorite shared vehicle?

A: It would have to be a shared car. My usual choice when it comes to mobility is cycling. However, I would opt for a car when it comes to shared mobility and living in a city. It is mainly due to practical reasons (especially having the liberty to choose the size of the car for a specific chore or activity). It also allows me to reduce my footprint by traveling with others.

Fun fact about yourself?

A: I competed in an investment pitching competition, essentially the Chinese equivalent of Dragon’s Den or Shark Tank. I was on live TV in China and won. Pretty exhilarating experience to win as it was also my first time being on live TV.

Where did you study?

A: I studied in the UK at Exeter University doing Politics and International relations. I was based on their Cornwall campus, a very nice balance between cost and quality of student life: cheap pubs, access to great beaches for surfing, and glorious hikes – when it didn’t rain, of course!

What are some examples of your previous work experience?

A: I’ve dabbled in a few areas since I started my career. My first role was in corporate banking managing large corporate accounts at Barclays for French and German-based corporate clients.

Then I went out on a limb and tried to do a couple of start-ups, one in packaging and another in social food delivery between cooking school students and students on campuses. Before Vulog, I was the Service Manager, and subsequently, Product Manager for Data Science focused products at the Department for International Trade (DIT). There we built a lot of data-driven products – one excellent product we built called, Find Exporters. This gave our colleagues a much faster way to find and target UK companies with Export opportunities.

What drew you to work in the tech industry?

A: I enjoy the tech industry’s problem-solving nature of the things we’re trying to solve. There is always a way to reach the objective, and working as a team to overcome challenges and finally seeing the tangible result is always a great feeling. The tech industry is also evolving, and the way forward as we become more integrated with our devices and IoT, so there are many things to be excited about!

What inspired you to work at Vulog?

A: Vulog has an exciting position in providing its customers with a whole suite of solutions for every facet of shared mobility, especially in sustainability and many other societal issues. This, compounded with my previous experiences, inspired me to join Vulog to build on the exciting innovations at Vulog but also think in the longer term of the potential impact Vulog has on society, environmental and technological advances.

What is your favorite project that you have worked on at Vulog? Or a project that you are particularly proud of?

A: I have been at Vulog for a little over four months, and in that time, I have learned a lot about shared mobility – and still learning! There are several projects that I am excited about, but what drives me is seeing the delivery of different projects in unison and how they complement each other and facilitate our customers’ lives when engaging in shared mobility.

But suppose I have to pinpoint one project. Currently, the radar feature is quite interesting to me, as it enables users to optimize their time by setting up a radar to find available cars at a specified time and location to later be notified when a free-floating vehicle is available.

What is your strategy for ensuring that each product delivers the maximum value to users?

A: It depends on what we’re looking to deliver and the context. Generally speaking the strategy I use is to look at a few critical criteria and get that right and building from there (aka MVP). The key aspect is ensuring that each product delivers a set of needs set out by the users and that in doing so it also complements existing products.

Where do you see mobility technology heading in the future?

A: I think there are a lot of factors at play at the moment, but overall I think the sky is the limit for mobility technology and its application in different contextual cases.

As society and technology adapt towards more sustainable endeavors, I believe there is much room to innovate and an increasing appetite from our customers and end-users to shift away from traditional mobility towards a more future-proof form of mobility.
